When do you need VTT → SRT?
HTML5 browsers want VTT, but much of the desktop app world still speaks SRT: VLC works with both, but many video editors, set-top boxes, TV players and subtitle tools expect .srt. If you downloaded captions from a web platform (YouTube exports VTT), converting to SRT makes them usable almost everywhere.
Conversion details handled automatically
WEBVTTheader and metadata blocks are stripped- Millisecond separator: dot → comma (
00:00:01.000→00:00:01,000) - Cue numbers are regenerated sequentially
- VTT styling tags (cue settings like
align:start position:10%) are removed — SRT has no equivalent - Basic inline tags (<i>, <b>) are kept, since SRT also uses them
