Why convert VTT to text?
WebVTT files are what YouTube downloads, browsers render and many podcast/video workflows produce — but they're full of scaffolding: the WEBVTT header, 00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:04.000 timing lines, optional cue identifiers, voice tags like <v Speaker> and timestamp tags like <00:00:02.000> embedded mid-line. For reading, quoting, archiving or feeding an LLM, you just want the words.
What gets removed
- The
WEBVTTheader and any metadata blocks (NOTE, STYLE, REGION) - All timestamp lines and cue numbering
- Inline tags —
<v>,<c>,<i>, embedded<hh:mm:ss.mmm>markers - With sentence merging on: the staccato one-line-per-cue rhythm of auto-captions becomes flowing sentences, one per line
SRT instead?
This tool handles both — the parser auto-detects SRT too. For heavier cleanup (sound markers, speaker labels, deduplication), use the Transcript Formatter.
